Rome City is decked out for the holidays with several Christmas in the Country events this weekend:
American Legion Post 381: Holiday House Walk breakfast buffet, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., at the post, 611 Kelly St., Rome City. Tickets: $6 per person.
Artisan Market: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Rome City Town Hall.
Rome City United Methodist Church: craft bazaar, cookie walk and food, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Orange Township Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary: bazaar and lunch, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., fire station.
The Lavender Lane: open house, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., 2258 Northport Road, Rome City.
Sylvan Cellars: Christmas coffee and lunch by Lucille’s BBQ, 2725 Northport Road, Rome City.
Rome City Holiday House Walk: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., sponsored by the Rome City Chamber of Commerce. Admission: $8 per person. See four homes and one shop, in any order. Houses on this year’s walk are: Robert and Lori Hogan, 9390 N. Steinbarger Lake Drive, Wawaka; Mother of Mercy Foundation’s Queen Anne home, 2730 E. Northport Road, Rome City; Larry and Donna Seiler, 315 Kerr Island North, Sylvan Lake, Rome City; Todd and Charlotte LaVigne, 854 Lions Drive, Sylvan Lake, Rome City; Sundaes on Sylvan with owners Matt Coffman and Christine Didier-Coffman, 253 N. Kelly St., Rome City. Tickets are $8 per person and available in advance at Rome City Town Hall, Specialty House, Noble County Convention & Visitors Bureau, Limberlost Public Library and Gene Stratton-Porter State Historic Site. Buy tickets the day of the walk at the town hall, American Legion Post 381 or at the door of each home. Our Lady, Mother of Mercy Center: State Road 9 and Northport Road, Rome City; 260-303-4990. The former Kneipp Springs Sanatorium is under new ownership and is now open to the public. The former doctor’s residence, a two-story Queen Anne brick home built at the turn of the 20th century, has been renovated and is beautifully decorated for holiday events. The home is warm and intimate for a dinner party of 25, or open space for a cocktail party of 50.

Noble County Public Library: “Hope for the Holidays” donation drive by NCPL Youth to make sure that all families have a great holiday. Donations may be cash or non-perishable items such as toiletries, paper products, coats and hats. Drop-off locations are at all NCPL branches in Avilla, Albion and Cromwell. Proceeds will be distributed to Noble County charities in time for Christmas!

Enjoy thousands of beautiful lights that cover the village and listen to Christmas music. Take your shopping list to the 1880s Mackey General Store for Amish products, Troyer deli meats and cheeses, unique gift items, Watkins products and jewelry. Stop by the 1880s Church in the Wildwood to see its authentic stained glass windows. Santa will read stories on Saturdays and children’s choirs will sing carols.

Avilla Chamber of Commerce: Christmas Tree Decorating Contest for businesses and organizations in downtown Avilla, and a Home Decorating Contest for Avilla residents. Vote for your favorites; prizes will be awarded Dec. 17. Go to www.chamberofavilla.org for information.

The Lavender Lane: The gift shop is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for all your gift needs. Visiting the only lavender farm in northeast Indiana is a tradition for many!
