A Note from a Visitor...

Hi Sarah,
We'd like to let you know how much we appreciate Noble County's support of geocaching. We recently attended the Midwest GeoBash and had some incredible experiences. We spent most of our time in Noble County, and had a great 3 night stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Kendallville. We'll make it a point to visit your area in the future to further show our appreciation. We were impressed when we noticed your ad on geocaching.com, the promotion for the GeoBash on your website, and the pro geocaching pins at your Visitor Center. I know that few of us will take the time to let you know, but many hundreds of cachers had a wonderful time last weekend, and we really are thankful for your support of our hobby!

Hope to return soon,
John and Carol, Oswego, IL

What is Geocaching?

So just what is Geocaching anyway? If you've found this page, chances are you fall into one of two groups.  Either your are an avid cache-seeker and are looking for places in Noble County OR  you have no clue what we're talking about.  Hopefully, both will leave satisfied.

The official geocache website, www.geocaching.com, describes geocaching as "...a worldwide recreational activity enjoyed by GPS (Global Positioning System) users.  It involves a GPS user hiding a "cache" (usually a waterproof container of trinkets) and posting the exact coordinates so other GPS users can come on a "scavenger hunt" to find it.  There are caches of all kinds for all ages and are usually placed in interesting locations in your area that you may not know about.  That makes it all the more interesting to find!  When you find one, take any trinket you like and leave one of your own to keep the cache full."

Geocaching.com encourages a friendly attitude toward natural resources with it's "cache-in/trash-out" policy.  Ceocachers are encouraged to tread lightly in the wilderness, respect private property, and remove litter wherever possible.  Participants realize that the future good name of this activity depends on maintaining respectful, open communication with property-owners and officials.

If you'd like to participate, it's easy!  It's a great way for multi-generations to spend time together, see areas they may not otherwise visit, and enjoy being outdoors.  Two things are necessary:  a GPS and access to the web.  Log on to www.geocaching.com and check for caches in your area....or an area you'd like to visit.  Noble County currently has 46 caches that we're aware of!
