Albion S.T.A.R. Team and Chamber of Commerce: Christmas in the Village in downtown Albion. Open houses for businesses and organizations from 4-7 p.m.; see their beautiful decorations, enjoy refreshments and sign up to win Chamber Buck gift certificates. S.T.A.R. Bazaar offers a variety of vendors, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Albion Opera House, 107 W. Jefferson St., on the north side of the courthouse. Santa Claus arrives at 6:50 p.m. on a horse-drawn wagon. Lighting of the Tree ceremony, 7 p.m. on the northeast corner of the courthouse square with the Noble County Saddle Club caroling on horseback and collecting non-perishable food items. Brick Ark Inn: Christmas open house, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., 215 N. Orange St., Albion. Enjoy Christmas punch and cookies and tour the beautifully decorated Victorian bed & breakfast inn dating to 1880. Cromwell Historical Society: 4th annual Christmas Tree Lighting, Smith Opera House. Make ornaments for the tree at 6 p.m. with the lighting ceremony at 7 p.m. Warm drinks and cookies, donated by Avalon, will be served afterward at the opera house. Mid-America Windmill Museum: annual Christmas lighting display, 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., 732 S. Allen Chapel Road (County Road 1000 E), Kendallville. Enjoy a fantastic display of lighted windmill towers, animated Christmas displays, craft bazaar in Baker Hall, a visit with Santa Claus and warm refreshments to take the chill off. Admission is $3 per person for visitors 13 and older.

Noble County Extension Homemakers: annual Festival of Cookies, Candy & Crafts, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Dekko Room, Noble County South Office Complex, 2090 N. State Road 9, Albion. Saturday, Dec. 6

Gene Stratton-Porter State Historic Site: “A Dream of Beauty” Holiday Walk, 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., 1205 Pleasant Point, Rome City. See Gene’s Cabin decorated as she described it for Christmas 1917. Enjoy live entertainment, holiday goodies, a cookie contest, crafts, and horse-drawn wagon rides. Admission is $3 per person. Santa will arrive at 2 p.m. in a very special way to visit with families until 6 p.m.

“A Dream of Beauty” Cookie Contest:

To Enter:

  • Bring at least two dozen of your favorite cookies in a disposable container identified with your name, phone number and/or email address, and the complete recipe.
  • Entries must be delivered to the GSP Carriage House between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6. Late entries will not be included with the judging.
  • Judging will take place at 2:30 p.m. with the winner announced at 3 p.m.
  • The Judges’ Choice winner will receive a certificate and prizes, plus have his or her recipe and photo published on the GSP website, Facebook page and newsletter.
  • Any type cookie is allowed but the recipe must be included and there must be at least two dozen cookies to allow for judging.
  • There is no entry fee for the cookie contest. Admission for “A Dream of Beauty” is $3 per person to enjoy all the activities that day. Children age 4 and younger are free.

Children and grownups can decorate paper apple and pear ornaments at the market, or take one home to decorate and return to place on the 14-foot Christmas tree. This event continues through Dec. 24.
