The Noble County Convention &  Visitors Bureau will be open Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for tours of its new home in the 1888 Sower Farmhouse, 8983 N County Road 350 E during Chautauqua Days this weekend.

On Sunday, the Rome City Lions Club will provide boat rides to Boy Scout Island for a church service at 10 a.m. with Jim Taylor of Rome City United Methodist Church. Boats depart from the Gene Stratton-Porter State Historic Site dock near the Cabin at Wildflower Woods. A presentation on the history of Boy Scout Island will take place at 11 a.m. Beth Friskney, author of “R is for Rome City” history book, will be on the cabin’s lawn before and after the church service with copies of her book.

Soarin’ Hawk will present Jefferson the Eagle in a program at noon on the pavilion lawn. Cub Scout Pack 3111 will present birdhouses to the GSP Memorial Society at 1 p.m. on the pavilion lawn.┬áNoble Trails president Al Huth will have a program on trail projects at 1:30 p.m. at the pavilion.

A decorated boat parade will start at the boat access Sunday at 1 p.m. and tour all of Sylvan Lake, passing by the GSP site at 2 p.m.

Other activities both days at the historic site are music from Shakin’ Hammers of Centerville, Mich., plein air painters the gardens, crafts in the Garden Shed, vendors of wood carvings, soaps and paintings of birds, Lions Club boat rides to and from Boy Scout Island from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Taste of the Gardens and Gene’s birthday cake on the garden lawn. Cabin tours are available on the hour for a fee. The gift shop and Environmental Resource Center will be open.

Limberlost Golf Course will offer discounted games on Saturday and Sunday. enjoy the tranquility of Sylvan Lake while playing a round at this historic golf course. Call 260-854-4878 for information.
