Indiana Gov. Mike Pence recently declared Saturday, July 26, as The National Day of the Cowboy. Jerry Bentley, vice chairman of the National Cowboy Association board of directors, has asked Moose Lake Christian Craft Village to host a celebration Saturday at its location, 11330 E 500 S., LaOtto.
Cowboy-themed events include a cookout of ham and beans, hot dogs and corn bread in cast iron Dutch ovens over a fire pit, old-fashioned tin-type photos as cowboys and cowgirls, or have a photo taken with an old barn wood frame. Visitors will also see cowboy rope tricks, pet the horses in the corral, and shop for cowboy merchandise in the 1880s period stores. Kids can take part in a cork gun shoot-out and ride in stick horse races.
The resort’s regular events will also continue this weekend. A chainsaw wood carver will demonstrate his art and other wood carvers will be on hand to create one-of-a-kind pieces. Hand-crafted local items and Amish merchandise is also available. Ongoing activities include the Moose Trax kiddie train rides, kids coloring contest booth, kids jewelry and craft booth. Water activities on Moose Lake include fishing, swimming, and rental of paddle boards, kayaks, canoes and water bikes.
Call Moose Lake Christian Craft Village at 260-637-2372 or 260-466-7741 for information.
